Sharough is a self-taught photographer from the Maldives whose journey with the camera began in 2000. What started as curiosity quickly evolved into a lifelong practice shaped by instinct, observation, and lived experience rather than formal training.

Working as a photojournalist, Sharough documented some of the most defining moments in modern Maldivian history, particularly during the country’s post-democracy era. His work goes beyond imagery—it serves as visual testimony to social change, public unrest, and the voice of the people.

Among the most significant chapters of his career is the coverage of the street demonstrations following the events of 7 February 2012, when Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force forced the resignation of the country’s first democratically elected president, Mohamed Nasheed. Sharough was on the streets, camera in hand, capturing raw, unfiltered moments of resistance, fear, courage, and collective emotion during a time that reshaped the nation’s political landscape.

With a background rooted in photojournalism and a deep passion for street photography, Sharough’s images often focus on people in motion—moments that exist only for a fraction of a second but carry lasting meaning. His work reflects a strong documentary sensibility, blending realism with a timeless, sometimes vintage aesthetic in both black-and-white and color.

Through more than two decades behind the lens, Sharough continues to photograph not just what is seen, but what is felt—preserving memories, stories, and histories that might otherwise fade.
